Course Details

This qualification reflects the job roles of workers in the accounting industry, including BAS Agents and contract bookkeepers; and of those employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements, and providing advice or dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to activity statements.

Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously, and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, it is assumed that you have literacy, numeracy and technical skills at a Certificate III level for success in this course. Contact your TAFE NSW campus if you have any questions about your suitability.

Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service for a fee or other reward must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the TPB education requirements for registration. Other conditions apply, including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly.

This course is scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9.00am to 4.00pm. Depending upon student expercience and existing skills students may need to do up to an additional 4 hrs per week of self-directed learning and practice.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

When your enrolment is complete, and you have paid the applicable fees, you will be entitled to attend class, participate in training, sit for examinations, receive educational awards, use amenities and services and receive an active TAFEcard (which provides access to library resources).

In addition to your course fee, there may be some additional charges to cover the costs of undertaking this training.

Costs associated with work experience and field trips such as food, transport and accommodation are at the students own expense.
