Course Details

This qualification reflects the job roles of workers in the accounting industry, including BAS Agents and contract bookkeepers; and of those employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements, and providing advice or dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to activity statements.

Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously, and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, it is assumed that you have literacy, numeracy and technical skills at a Certificate III level for success in this course. Contact your TAFE NSW campus if you have any questions about your suitability.

Work functions in the occupational areas where this qualification may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Refer to the FNS Financial Services Training Package Companion Volume Implementation Guide or the relevant regulator for specific guidance on requirements.

Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service for a fee or other reward must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the TPB education requirements for registration. Other conditions apply, including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly.

To successfully complete this course, you will need: - Good computer skills to access and save files - undertake internet research - send and receive emails etc.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full-time, face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 21 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 10.1 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 4.4 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including study, assessment preparation and research.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
