Course Details

This qualification reflects the job roles of workers in the accounting industry, including BAS Agents and contract bookkeepers; and of those employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements, and providing advice or dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to activity statements.

Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously, and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, it is assumed that you have literacy, numeracy and technical skills at a Certificate III level for success in this course. Contact your TAFE NSW campus if you have any questions about your suitability.

Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service for a fee or other reward must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the TPB education requirements for registration. Other conditions apply, including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part time evening face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 10.5 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 5 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 2.5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including independent study, research, practice and assignments.

This course is designed to meet the needs of career starters and or new entrants into the finance sector. This course is an entry level qualification into the Accounting/ Bookkeeping sector. This course focuses on developing real skills in applying accounting principles and use specialised knowledge relevant in the application of spreadsheets and accounting software (e.g. MYOB- Account Right.2018.3).

This course is currently scheduled on Monday from 12:30pm to 4:00pm, and Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00am to 12:00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
