Course Details

This qualification is designed for individuals who require further foundation skills development to prepare for workforce entry or vocational training pathways.

This qualification is suitable for individuals who require:

  • A pathway to employment or vocational training
  • Reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication and learning skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 3
  • Entry level digital literacy and employability skills
  • A vocational training and employment plan.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • Prior to enrolment, you will be required to complete a student interview and screen. A suitable time will be organised for you to speak to a teacher who will conduct this interview and screen.

During 2021, construction of the new Meadowbank Education & Employment Precinct will be undertaken at TAFE NSW Meadowbank. There may be some disruption to students during that time, including noise, dust, vibration and changes to campus parking. TAFE NSW is focussed on minimising any disruption to students, where practicable. Contact us on 131601 for any questions.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Flexible, Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 9 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 18 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 15 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours. Students are encouraged to make use of all opportunities at home, in the workplace and in the community to develop and consolidate their LLN skills eg

Watching television/DVD/movie
Reading magazines, brochures, leaflets
Practising skills at home
Practising skills at work
Volunteering in a situation that will involve use of LLN and digital skills.

  • This course is for students who would like to pathway into vocational study in areas including childcare, aged care, business and community services.
  • It includes reading, writing, computing, learning strategies and numeracy, in addition to vocational units including First aid.

The way you learn may change during your enrolment to ensure the best learning experience or to keep you safe as COVID-19 restrictions change, and some of our face to face classes may change to online or virtual classroom learning. Also, to ensure that we keep you safe while studying, we may modify our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday and Wednesday from 9:30am to 2:30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
