This qualification is designed for job roles in the harvesting and haulage sector of the forest and forest products industry.

This qualification has eleven employment pathways for typical operational environments of harvesting and haulage. These are:

  • Bulldozer Operator
  • Excavator Operator
  • Feller Buncher Operator
  • Forest Harvester
  • Forwarder Operator
  • Harvesting Technician
  • In-field Chipper Operator
  • Loader Operator
  • Log truck driver
  • Mobile Equipment Operator
  • Skidder Operator

Some imported units in the elective bank may be subject to licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements. These units must be implemented in line with the licensing requirements outlined in the units parent Training Package.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • access to harvesting and haulage equipment in an active forest environment.
  • a full time employment in the harvesting and haulage sector.

There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.


This is a full time face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 3.5 hours of class, over 1 day a month, for 2 years.

You may also be required to complete approximately 16 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including learning at the workplace.


This course offering is designed for people who:

  • will be apprentices/trainees and existing workers who are looking to gain a higher level of qualification and skills within the forestry industry with focus on harvesting and haulage activities.

Students attend a Face to Face and/or Blended theory session and practical demonstration with teacher monthly. Students are required to undertake unstructured learning on theory and practical components within the workplace between theory and practical demonstration sessions until assessments. Correspondence with trainer is required via phone and email. Machinery units training and assessment will take place at learner's worksite. Learner and employer will need to allow for three training blocks per year.

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
