Assessments

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • Depending on your elective units, campus location and delivery method, you may be required to undertake a mandatory 120 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

  • Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will either arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • Learners will be required to purchase a clinical uniform shirt and learning resources for this qualification. Student Materials fee totaling $35.

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence to show you have the following:

    • a current NSW Working With Children Check (for volunteers)
    • a current National Police Check. Please note having a criminal conviction may prevent you from accessing a suitable work placement.
  • All students are also required to demonstrate vaccination serology, COVID-19 and Flu Vaccinations are required for work placement - record card provided at orientation.

  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • Learners must complete 80 hours of work placement. Any learner who has a criminal conviction recorded on their national police check, will need to obtain their own facilitated work placement.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 7 core and 8 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
