Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

    • Students are requred to purchase a TAFE workplacement Shirt at the cost of $30. Students are also required to purchase a First Aid textbook at the cost of $25

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • to undertake 120 hours of supervised workplacement experience. 80 hours will be in an acute care facility and 40 hours in aged or acute care. Eligibility for Work Placement: Before commencement of workplace experience in students will be required to:
    • Meet NSW Health’s criminal record check requirements
    • Sign the NSW Health code of conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW health;
    • Undertake occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against infectious diseases and provide health care worker/student vaccination record card including Flu vaccination

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in nursing work in acute care) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 Units of competency, including 15 core and 0 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
