Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • 3 weeks fulltime (120 hours) of placement one week in an aged care facility (Non-Critical) and two weeks in hospital as a Health Service Assistant.

Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

    • There is an additional $150 for which the students receive 2 work placement polo shirts with TAFE embroidered logo and a first aid textbook and resources.
    • Students also need to wear uniform for work placement-black trousers/pants suitable for a professional work place, black water proof shoes which must be supplied by the student at their own expense.

  • To be able to successfully complee this course, you will need:

    • Workplace/mandatory workplace requirements, detail: clinical placement requirement: all students must provide endorsed copies of the following documents to their course coordinator.
    • A Valid Working With Children Check, A Valid National Police Check, and evidence they have met NSW Healt immunisation requirements
  • Work Placement is a requirement of this course. You will need to complete:

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in nursing work in acute care) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 Units of competency, including 15 core and 0 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
