This qualification reflects the role of pathology collectors. Workers in this role follow known routines and procedures, taking responsibility for their own work under general supervision. They combine communication, customer service and technical skills, and use discretion and judgment to adapt and transfer their skills to different situations.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 35 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY
If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.
There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.
This is a Part-Time Day Blended course. You will need to attend approximately an average of 4.7 hours of class, over 1 day for 30 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 13.3 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 7.5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research, assignment preparation, practical and theory review.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
This course offering is designed for people who:
- have an interest in health and science, have an inquisitive nature, are detail driven and analytical. As parts of this course are delivered on a Moodle platform, a basic level of computer skills is required.
Blended delivery includes attendance one FULL Friday per week for the first 18 weeks of the course, plus online study via the Moodle platform. The following 12 weeks of Fridays of the course are conducted offsite during placement blocks and 4 hours via online sessions. First Aid will be scheduled outside of these course hours, on a Saturday.

- Education Support Officer (ESO) available 5 days per week for Moodle support on demand, and assistance with understanding the course content. Students may book up to 1 hour per week with the ESO.

This course is currently scheduled on Friday from 8.30am to 4.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:
- students completing the First Aid unit will need to purchase a First Aid Bookpack from Student Central at an additional cost of $25.
