Assessments

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • During your course you will undertake a mandatory 35 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

  • Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will either arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you can work independently and have the physical ability for the work role. Prior to your work placement you will also need to provide a current National Police check and evidence of all vaccinations.

  • To successfully complete this course, you will need to:

    • have completed a minimum of 35 hours of work placement at a pathology Centre. A clear National Police check is required for participation in the work placement. You may be required to undertake occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against infectious diseases and provide a health care worker/student vaccination record card.
    • attend weekly online classes and face-to-face Saturday Workshops and complete your at-home learning activities set by your teachers
    • provide your own stationery such as pens, notebook, folder, access to computer and internet (when not at the TAFE campus)

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Pathology Collection qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 14 Units of competency, including 9 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
