An individual training plan will be provided when you enrol in this course. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail your units and assessments. Practical sessions are held at TAFE NSW Nepean campus.
Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.
Skills assessments: practical demonstrations under observation such as choosing spectacle frames, adjusting and fitting spectacles
Knowledge assessments: true/false, multiple-choice, short answer, and extended response questions
Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.
You must complete 100 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer to meet the course requirements.
You are responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our team can offer support and guidance to assist you.

Work Placement is a requirement of this couse. You will need to complete:
Practical Block 1 and Practical Block 3 are both 4 days, while Practical Block 2 is 5 days in duration.
The simulated environment at TAFE includes undertaking practice with required resources and equipment, which replicate optical dispensing practice environments, and provides equipment and resources where possible. The simulated workshops are conducted at TAFE Digital’s optical dispensing training facility at TAFE NSW Nepean campus. Work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of this course. Due to the impacts of COVID 19 and the disruption to service provision in the Early Childhood, Aged Care, Health and Community Services Sectors, there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe.
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 14 units of competency, including 9 core and 5 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
Choose when and where you study. Set your own pace, with all your study materials online, allowing you to manage your own workload. Access your learning management system 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is a highly collaborative space that involves more than simply reading and consuming.
You will interact creatively with content, teachers and your peers, improving your overall engagement with the course. Teaching staff are available to provide you with support, enabling you meet your course outcomes.
You may need to attend a vocational placement, on campus assessment and/or a teacher might need to observe and assess you in a real or simulated environment. Online courses require access to a computer with an internet connection.
