Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of remedial massage therapists who work with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance or restrictions in range of motion (ROM). Practitioners may be self-employed or work within a larger health service.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 200 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY
If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.
This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

You will need to purchase learning resources to successfully complete the course. This consists of two Remedial Massage Techniques DVDs/USB sticks costing $20 each, printed Learner Resources costing $50 and a Clinic Polo Shirt costing $30 (total $120). This cost covers resources necessary to complete Stage 1, 2 & 3 (18 months) of study. If you are entering the course in Stage 2 or 3 the course resource costs will be adjusted accordingly.

WORK PLACEMENTS

Many TAFE courses have a compulsory work placement component to assist you to apply your learning in a practical environment and you may be required to comply with some (or all) of the following.

1. NSW HEALTH

Before you commence any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you will be required to
• Meet NSW Health’s - Criminal Record Check requirements;
• Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW Health;
• Undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

4. STUDENT READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT

INFORMATION SESSION

Attend an information session (2 hrs duration) on Wednesday 26 June 2019 from 10:30am to 12.30 pm to meet with the teaching staff, discuss the course and get more information about enrolment and next steps. Location: Randwick College cnr King St & Darley Rd Randwick Building B Level 1 Room 26 (B1.26).

MORE ABOUT THIS COURSE

To achieve this qualification, students must complete 200 hours of documented work placement (supervised clinic) as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. Clinical practice continues throughout the duration of the course & is conducted on campus in the Intuition Massage Clinic. To successfully complete the course you will also need to complete 500 hours of unstructured learning comprising individual study hours, assignment preparation, research and other learning activities.

Unstructured self-directed learning including assessment preparation, skills practice, research and revision will be approximately 12 hours per week
