To complete the Diploma of Nursing students are required to successfully complete all units and complete a minimum of 400hrs of unpaid professional experience to meet the assessment requirements of the units. On completion of HLT54115 qualification students are eligible to apply for registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (http://www.ahpra.gov.au).
ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY
If you are enrolling in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for at least 2 minutes on the floor. If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.
For successful completion of this course, you will need:
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) requires all applicants for registration as Enrolled Nurses to provide evidence of five years (full time equivalent)
Education in English at secondary, vocational or tertiary level OR undertake an IELTS examination and achieve a minimum score of 7 in each component of the academic module OR complete and achieve an overall pass in the OET with graded A or B level in each of the four components.

TAFE NSW recommends that all students meet the following entry requirements.
Academic requirements: satisfactory completion of the NSW Higher School Certificate OR Satisfactory completion of a Certificate III (AQF level 3) qualification or
Additional English level requirements: written evidence that the candidate completed four (4) years (full time equivalent) of education in English at secondary, vocational or tertiary level in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States of America.
Achievement of a minimum of 7 on each band IELTS academic modules.
NOTE: achievement of an IELTS of 7 or a pass at A or B in each for the four components OET for nurses is still required prior to registration with the NMBA.
- Current criminal record clearance
- Fully vaccinated as per NSW Ministry of Health directive
- Work placement is a minimum of 400 hours
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.
This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.
A VET student loan may be available to eligible students to cover some or all of their course fees. More information will be made available closer to your enrolment.
