Assessments

  • Knowledge assessments: quizzes, short answer questions, case studies, written tasks, research projects

  • Practical assessments: manual handling, medication administration, wound care and activities of daily living

  • Workplace assessments: written tasks, reflective journals, verbal or written questioning, practical demonstrations, workplace portfolio

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • Clinical Placement requirements - 400 hours. Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of their first clinical placement.

    Prior to the first clinical placement, and before gaining a clinical placement in NSW Health ClinConnect all students must provide endorsed copies of the following documents to their course coordinator:

    • A valid working with Children Check.
    • A valid National Police Record Check.
    • Evidence they have met NSW Health immunisation requirements.
    • Mandatory 2 x COVID 19 vaccinations.

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • Applicants are required to complete the RU Ready / Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB), which is a Commonwealth approved language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) online skills review tool. The BKSB tool provides evidence of current literacy and numeracy skills within the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) and indicates if applicants have literacy and numeracy skills appropriate for Diploma level study. Results are shown as a level, based on the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). Applicants must achieve an English language result of Exit Level 3 (working at Level 4) or above to be considered for this course. Testing will be arranged through your TAFE campus; details will be provided throughout the application process. Prospective applicants not achieving these levels will be directed to more suitable courses.

  • English is your primary language, and you have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in a recognised country, including at least two years between years 7 and 12.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Nursing qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 25 units of competency, including 20 core and 5 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
