Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: quizzes, short answer questions, case studies, written tasks, research projects

  • Practical assessments: manual handling, medication administration, wound care and activities of daily living

  • Workplace assessments: written tasks, reflective journals, verbal or written questioning, practical demonstrations, workplace portfolio

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • Applicants must meet minimum entry requirements which include a Certificate III or higher, Higher School Certificate, minimum LLN screening and English language requirements including evidence.
    • Students must provide:
    • National Police Record Check
    • Working with Children Check
    • Immunisations required by NSW Health and private providers for clinical work placement are mandatory and evidence will be required on commencement of course delivery. Failure to provide Immunisation information will result in non-completion of mandatory requirements and non-course completion.
    • Application process involves written assessment and interview with Ramsay Health representatives.
    • Students will be required to undertake compulsory work placement hours and must agree to the immunisation verification process for occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against infectious diseases.
    • Fulltime unpaid workplace hours will be organised by TAFE NSW in conjunction with NSW Health and or Ramsay Health to meet the minimum 400 hours required to meet training package and AHPRA registration requirements.
    • Work placement locations will be based on availability and may require travel within the Southern region (Bega, Nowra, Canberra and Illawarra Local Area Health region), Ramsay health students may be required to move within the Nowra, Southern Highlands, Figtree, Wollongong and Thirroul Ramsay campuses.
    • Travel and accommodation for work placement is at students own cost.
    • Work placement is undertaken in separate fulltime block weeks. 8hour shifts both morning and afternoon, Monday to Friday or as rostered. Ramsay Health students will be rostered over a three day working week. Additional hours required for allocated/ arranged work placement due to unapproved absence may be arranged by TAFE NSW at students own cost.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Nursing qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 25 units of competency, including 20 core and 5 speciality units.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
