Course Details

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a wide range of general information and communications technology (ICT) technologies and practices in different organisational contexts.

Persons working at this level apply a wide range of knowledge and skills in basic networking, ICT support, testing, systems analysis and design, database development, programming and web development support.

When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. It is assumed that you have literacy, numeracy and technical skills at Certificate III level for success in this course. Contact your TAFE NSW campus if you have any questions about your suitability.

To successfully complete this course you will need-Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills as defined in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). If you haven?t studied at this level or above before, you may be required to undertake an assessment of your LLN skills so that we can better understand your academic capabilities and identify areas where you may need support. If you do not meet these requirements a Teacher will discuss alternative options or support services available to help you achieve your study goals.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Full time course. You will need to attend approximately 30.5 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 5.7 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research and assignments preparation.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • This group of students is predominantly made up of school leavers who have digital literacy skills that they have acquired through their study at school and their life experience. They would at a minimum have completed the equivalent of Year 10 and undertaken technology related activities during their school study. Students who have exited school without exposure to technology skills or who require more support would be offered a Certificate II level qualification. The students are comfortable working with computers in general, and more specifically with operating systems, software applications and digital documents. They use the Internet in their day-to-day activities and are able to use search engines for research.

This course is currently scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 am to 3:30 pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
