There are no entry requirements for non-trainees.

Traineeship

To be eligible for this course you must:

  • Be employed in the IT industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • Have a signed traineeship contract

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is an online course. You will need to complete approximately 9 hours of online study, each week, for your enrolment duration of 18 months.
You can increase the hours of online study per week to complete the course sooner.

You can also expect to complete approximately 1 hour of additional study each week outside of online study hours, including private study, assignment preparation, work experience and research.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • will apply a wide range of knowledge and skills in basic networking, IT support, database development, programming and web development support; working safely and ethically in a sustainable work environment.
  • want to obtain qualifications in Information Technology at Certificate 4 level.
  • may have no qualifications in this field (e.g. school leavers)
  • are graduates from Cert 3 in IDMT
  • may be currently employed students willing to learn new skills or obtain a new qualification (or update an existing one)

Students should have good digital literacy skills, specifically with operating systems, software applications, hardware and digital documents, acquired through their study at school, their life experience or completion of a lower level qualification.

Students who require more support or who have lower level digital literacy would be offered a Certificate III level qualification.

Job roles that could be suitable upon completion include; computer technician, customer support, customer support professional, information systems operator, PC support, systems administrator, systems support, technical support, user support technician and network operations technician.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
