  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

    • Certificate III in Information Technology or extensive IT experience using enterprise level networks.
  • Before starting the Certificate IV in Information Technology ICT40120, we recommend students complete the Certificate III IT course to build up their study and technical skills in workplace communications, protocols, documentation, technical writing, WHS, sustainability, cyber security, networking, operating systems, hardware and office applications.

  • This is a high level IT course with a focus on CISCO networking and technical support. It is the pathway to the Diploma IT Networking.

  • You will also need daily access to following equipment:

    • computer with i5 processor or better, 8GB RAM minimum
    • at least 500GB HDD external storage
    • a large monitor or 2 smaller monitors – if possible
    • backup device like a USB 3.0 HDD
    • a reliable fast unlimited internet connection
    • web camera, headset and microphone
    • a space for study where the student can concentrate away from too many distractions

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 20 units of competency, including 7 core and 13 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
