ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, it is recommended you:

  • have an intermediate to high level of experience in, and knowledge of, computers and computer systems, and working in the IT environment

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • to complete all 17 units, comprising of 8 core and 9 electives, which have been pre-selected after consultation with industry, to ascertain the skills and knowledge required for the job role, or to progress into higher qualifications
  • have access to a computer at home, with good internet connectivity, during the timetabled hours. If you don't have access to a computer at home, you will have access to TAFE libraries

The expectation is that by enrolling in this qualification, you commit to the time frame in which the qualification is being delivered. The proposed study schedule will be discussed, and an individual training plan will be established. Should you fall behind your agreed schedule, you will be required to complete additional work and learning outside scheduled class time. You need to be committed to practising new skills learnt in class, in your own time.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time day course. You will need to attend approximately 20 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 7.1 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 7.8 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research, and assignment preparation.


IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • do not have formal IT qualifications, and are seeking to the IT industry, as a Level 1 or 2 Technician
  • want to go on to study IT at a higher level
  • have not had much exposure to formal learning, beyond school
  • have digital literacy skills, that may have been acquired through either previous study, and/or life experience
  • are comfortable working with computers in general, and more specifically, with operating systems, software applications, and digital documents, and who use the internet in their day-to-day activities

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
