Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of an advanced technician (technical officer), team leader or supervisor with a wide range of telecommunications skills who can install and maintain:
- enterprise networks in emerging and converging technologies
- optical and wireless equipment for high speed broadband network infrastructure
- internet protocol (IP) based network telecommunications equipment
- IP based networks in home networks and small and medium enterprises
- telecommunications, data cabling and cabling products in line with the specifications of the access network owner
- telecommunications access network cabling and infrastructure, systems and customer equipment

The qualification also enables technicians to assess installation requirements of converging voice, video and data IP networks, plan and perform installations and test installed equipment and fault find. It may also involve a degree of autonomy and may include limited supervision of others.

This course provides a general (non-specialised) Certificate IV in Telecommunications Engineering Technology. Contact TAFE NSW if you want to specialise in Network Engineering, Optical Networks or Radio Communications.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

It is assumed that you have literacy, numeracy and technical skills at Certificate III level for success in this course. Contact your TAFE NSW campus if you have any questions about your suitability.
Proposed attendance: 7 hours per day, 3 days per week. 23 hours per week for 1 Semester. Timetable to be provided on enrolment.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience your fee may decrease from the maximum shown.
Payment by instalment may also be available. Your fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

A fee applies for most TAFE NSW courses and must be paid when you enrol. The amount you pay depends on the type of course you study, and on your personal circumstances. An initial payment of $80 is required to confirm your enrolment into this course. If you do not wish to continue with your enrolment, you must formally advise Customer Service of your withdrawal.
