Course Details

The nationally accredited Advanced Diploma of Network Security equips you to lock in a career as a network security specialist. Develop a comprehensive understanding of critical network security issues in the industrial and social environments of intranet, extranet and internet connectivity.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for this course, you need to demonstrate the following:

  • That you have completed the Diploma of Networking, or equivalent course, and can provide a transcript
  • Provide evidence of configuring and installing Cisco Routers and switches via a letter from an employer or Cisco certification

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • Prior knowledge of Cisco routing and switching
  • The ability to work independently and in a team
  • A passion for designing and implementing network architecture and security systems
  • An enjoyment of troubleshooting networks
  • A good understanding of Windows Server
  • A good fundamental understanding of IT networking

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

  • acquired the knowledge and skills equivalent to the Diploma of Networking ICT50415 including the skills and knowledge of Cisco CCNA Routing & Switching.

During 2021, construction of the new Meadowbank Education & Employment Precinct will be undertaken at TAFE NSW Meadowbank. There may be some disruption to students during that time, including noise, dust, vibration and changes to campus parking. TAFE NSW is focussed on minimising any disruption to students, where practicable. Contact us on 131601 for any questions.

Typical delivery sessions duration is three to four hours each, Course is delivered over three to four days, Typical session times are Monday to Thursday 6.00pm to 10.00pm and Saturday, 9.00am to 1.00pm; 1.30pm to 5.30pm. Timetables may need to be adjusted during the semester subject to availability of resources.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Full Time blended course. You will need to attend approximately 20 hours of class over 3-4 days a week, for 18 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 26 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including previous study and research preparation


IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course offering is designed for:

  • existing workers (career upgrader), students who have skills at Diploma of Networking level and wish to expand their skills and knowledge in planning, designing, managing and monitoring an enterprise information and communications technology (ICT) network individually or as part of a team responsible for advanced ICT network security systems. The key focus is a high-level ICT technical base with appropriate security units and the ability to specialise in a number of areas, including voice, wireless, network infrastructure and sustainability.

This course is currently scheduled for 3-4 days a week. An individual training plan will be provided when you enrol in this course. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail your units and assessments.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND ASSISTANCE

This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan (VSL). If you meet the VSL eligibility and academic suitability requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.

To complete your VET Student Loan application, you will need to provide:

  • Your Tax File Number (TFN). If you dont have a TFN, click here for information on how to apply for one. You can complete your loan application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you dont provide your TFN before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.
  • Your Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) ). If you have previously accessed a loan via the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), either at TAFE or university, you will already have a CHESSN. You must use the same CHESSN whenever you access a student loan. If you dont have CHESSN, we will allocate one on your behalf.
To be eligible for a VET Student Loan, you will need to be assessed as academically suitable to undertake high level VET study. You will need to provide:
  • A copy of your Australian Year 12 Certificate; OR
  • A copy of a certificate showing that you have been awarded a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework (where the language of instruction was English). If you previously completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification at TAFE NSW, just let us know where and when you studied in your application; OR
  • Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. We will let you know if this is required once you apply.
