Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: short answer, multiple choice questions

  • Skills assessments: case studies

  • Practical skills assessments: workplace demonstrations under the observation of an accredited supervisor

  • Submission of a workplace logbook

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • There is no work placement requirement for this qualification.

  • As an apprentice, you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.

  • If you are enrolling as a non-apprentice, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments in order to meet the course completion requirements.

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

    • PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) - approximately $100 - $200
    • Text books approximately $600

  • To take this course as an apprenticeship, you must be employed as an apprentice in the industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer

  • Submit your Training Plan Proposal (TPP) with your application

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

    • an apprentice (you will work in industry and study at the same time)
    • employed full time
    • signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
    • seeking to gain skills and knowledge to become a qualified Avionics Technician after successful completion

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Avionics) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 25 Units of competency , including 12 core and 13 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

  • Interpret and use aviation maintenance industry manuals and specifications MEA107

  • Conduct self in the aviation maintenance environment MEA118

  • Apply mathematics and physics in aviation maintenance MEA148

  • Apply work health and safety practices in aviation maintenance MEA154

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
