Course Details

This course is for people entering employment in manufacturing, engineering and related industry areas. You will gain the basic competencies required to work as an operator in these areas.

You will acquire skills and knowledge in workplace communication, occupational health and safety, quality procedures and planning, plus some industry-specific skills in a production or process area relevant to your current or intended employment.

The course duration will vary depending on the training pathway agreed to between you, your employer and the TAFE college.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time, face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 12 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 18 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 7 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including assessment preparations.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday and Tuesday from 8.30am to 3.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

Students will be required to bring PPCE to undertake practical training & assessment. These items will include welding gauntlets, ear muffs or plugs, oxy cutting/welding goggles, safety glasses (clear), leather work boots and long sleeve shirt/long trousers (cotton work wear) must be worn at all times - no singlets. Stationary required is pens, pencils and notepad. Learners will be required to have all these items on their first day and learners that do not present with the above, will not be able to partake in any workshop activities.
