To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • Pen/s and notebook
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It is your responsibility to supply your Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Due to safety and hygiene regulations, students are to supply their own protective equipment. A standard list of items meeting the relevant Australian Standards should include:
    • Welding helmet – shade 10 to 11 - Talk to Teacher
    • Approved Australian Standards Oxy-Acetylene goggles – shade 5
    • Full leather gauntlet gloves
    • Clear safety glasses
    • Approved hearing protection
    • Cotton work clothing (overalls, cotton drill trousers, cotton drill shirt etc.)
    • Leather work boots – NOT shoes
    • Welding jacket (Jackets will be loaned to students from the store or you can supply your own)
    • no synthetic materials should be worn – the above equipment is required by all students undertaking courses within the Metal Fabrication and Welding section.
  • TAFE conditions of entry to this course are the ability to work independently.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate II in Engineering qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 20 units of competency, including 5 core and 15 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
