Course Details

The nationally accredited Certificate IV in Engineering equips you with the skills you need to work as an advanced engineering tradesperson. With TAFE NSW, you will learn fitting and metal fabrication and how to work collaboratively with others in a manufacturing or engineering environment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

TAFE NSW offers the Certificate IV in Engineering as an apprenticeship. There may also be options available for you to study as a non-apprentice.

Apprenticeship
To be eligible for this course, you must:

  • Be employed as an apprentice in the engineering industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer
  • Submit your Training Plan Proposal (TPP) with your application

Non-apprenticeship
There may be options available for you to study as a non-apprentice. Enquire today, and one of our Apprenticeship and Traineeship team will help you understand any eligibility or entry requirements that apply.

COURSE SUCCESS REQUIREMENTS

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements to complete your coursework.

You need to meet the following requirements to be able to undertake work placement. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

  • A general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card) - you will need this before you can enter a construction site

WORK PLACEMENT

There is no work placement requirement for this qualification. As an apprentice, you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.

If you are enrolling as a non-apprentice, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments in order to meet the course completion requirements.

You are responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our team can offer support and guidance to assist you.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • A Certificate III in Engineering Fabrication or have equivalent industry experience
  • An intermediate fitness level to manage the physical demands of the role
  • The ability to work at heights and confined spaces
  • The ability to work early morning, late evening, or weekend hours if required

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Part Time Evening Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 3.5 hours of class, over 1 evening a week, for 2 years.

You may also be required to complete approximately 8.3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including self directed assessment preperation, review of structured learning and workplace learning

This course is currently scheduled on Tuesday from 5.30pm to 8:30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
