Course Details

The nationally recognised Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Pathology) prepares you to work unsupervised as a qualified laboratory technician in pathology labs. Test for medical diagnoses, contribute to important medical and scientific studies, and help people make informed health decisions.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for this course, you need to demonstrate the following:

  • That you have achieved the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate, or
  • That you have achieved a Certificate IV, or higher level qualification, in a relevant science discipline, as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate, or
  • Equivalent skills and knowledge in a relevant science discipline to any of the above qualifications, as outlined in your resume

Traineeship
TAFE NSW also offers the Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Pathology) as a traineeship. In addition to meeting the above requirements, trainees must:

  • Be employed in the biomedical and pathology industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • Have a signed traineeship contract

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time, combination course. You must attend approximately 18 hours of class. You may also be required to complete approximately 5 hours of additional study. This additional study could include private study, work placements and research.

The course will run 3 days a week for 36 weeks.

If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with day classes. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
