The nationally accredited Certificate II in Applied Fashion Design and Technology is a hands-on course for fashion design assistants and beginners in the evolving fashion industry. You will learn your craft in a simulated fashion studio environment and focus on mastering the basics of design, patternmaking and sewing.
LEARN NEW SKILLS
Through theory and practical course-work, you will learn:
- To use a sewing machine and overlocker
- Basic patternmaking and pattern modification
- To use a pattern to cut fabric
- To create a mood board
- To draw fashion sketches
- Assembling basic garments/bag or cushion

Sewing is a skill for life and handmade is in. As more people look to reduce fashion waste, there is increased demand for people who can create handcrafted garments and complete alterations.
There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course
This is a full time face to face course. You will need to attend approximately 12 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 18 weeks.
You may also be required to complete extra hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including self paced research, practice, and assignment preparation. Complete sample garments, create and collate their own fabric library .

- Have an interest in the fashion industry
- Wish to learn entry level skills in sewing and embellishment techniques.
These routine and repetitive tasks are completed under direct supervision, students enrolling into this course are likely to have limited experience or knowledge in the fashion industry as this is an entry level pathway.

This course is currently scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9.00am to 3.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
