Course Details

Build your career as a trade qualified plant operator with the nationally accredited Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations. Learn how to safely operate plant equipment such as excavators, loaders, dozers and rollers, and work on exciting civil infrastructure projects in this booming industry.


Through theory and practical course-work, you will learn:

  • How to operate a small plant and equipment including excavators, loaders, dozers, graders and rollers
  • How to handle resources and infrastructure materials and safely dispose of non-toxic materials
  • To identify, locate and protect underground services

You must be at least 15 years old to enrol in this course.


You need to be employed in the civil construction industry and work at a civil construction plant before enrolling in this course.

Practical activities will be completed through your workplace.


No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification.

  • It is not essential that you are highly skilled at using computers to study this course, however, you need to be able to operate a computer.

This is a blended course and will be delivered by workplace visits. Times will be negotiated with teaching section and employer.

You may also be required to complete approximately 8 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including learning material, research and workplace training.

This course is delivered by workplace visits. An individual training plan will be provided when you enrol in this course. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail your units and assessments.


This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
