The nationally accredited Certificate III in Civil Construction (General) will give you a broad overview of the construction industry. This highly-regarded qualification is recognised by construction employers, it can lead to work on substantial, exciting infrastructure projects across Australia.

INDUSTRY DEMAND

The civil construction sector is booming across NSW. Skilled construction workers are in high demand due to project works commissioned by the Federal and state government, local councils and private contracting firms.

This course is superseded. You can still enrol in this course, and you will be contacted if you need to transition into the next version when it is available.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for this course, you must:

  • Hold a valid general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card)

TAFE NSW offers the Certificate III in Civil Construction (General) as either an apprenticeship or non-apprenticeship, traineeship or non-traineeship, so you can construct the career you want.

Apprenticeship

To be eligible for this course, you must:

  • Be employed as an apprentice in the civil construction industry
  • Submit your training plan proposal (TPP) with your application

Non-apprenticeship

There may be options available for you to study as a non-apprentice. Enquire today and our Apprenticeship and Traineeship team will support you to understand any eligibility or entry requirements for our non-apprenticeship qualifications.

Traineeship

To be eligible for this course you must:

  • Be employed in the civil construction industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • Have signed a traineeship contract

Non-traineeship

To be eligible for this course you must:

  • Be employed in the civil construction industry

WORK PLACEMENT

There is no work placement requirement for apprentices or trainees undertaking this qualification, as you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.

Non-apprentices and non-trainees will need to be in either relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments to complete the learning and assessment requirements.

You are responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our team can offer support and guidance to assist you.

To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you have:

  • An ability to comply with safety procedures
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • The ability to work in confined spaces and at heights if required
  • Literacy, language and numeracy skills to Year 10 high school level
  • A high level of physical fitness
  • The ability to operate a computer

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this qualification can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors.

A white card (or general construction induction card) is required for workers who require access to construction sites. Local regulations should also be checked for requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • Working in the civil construction industry.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • To have adequate motor skills and physical fitness to undertake routine tasks relevant to workplace activities.
  • It is not essential that you are highly skilled at using computers to study this course, however, you need to be able to operate a computer.

This course will be delivered by workplace visits. An individual training plan will be provided when you enrol in this course. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail your units and assessments.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
