Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: short answer, multiple-choice questions and quizzes

  • Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation in work areas with varying terrain and material types

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • There is no work placement requirement for this qualification. As an apprentice, you’ll gain experience with your employer.

  • If you are enrolling as a non-apprentice, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to simulated workplaces to meet the completion requirements.

  • To take this course as an apprenticeship you need to be employed as an apprentice in the industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer and

  • Submit your Training Plan Proposal (TPP) with your application

  • To be enrolled in this course offering, you need to be able to meet the following work placement requirements:

    • Be 17 years of age or older.
    • Be able to speak, read and write English. If you have problems with reading and writing please contact us to see what help we can offer before the course starts.
    • The ability to work independently.
    • Workplace visits will be undertaken in consultation with the learner and employer to organise an appropriate time and place to suit all parties.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 26 Units of competency, including 8 core and 18 speciality units.

Course delivery Studying at your Workplace

You will get your training on the job, supervised by a workplace training officer or your employer. This training is undertaken at your place of employment. Work-based learning may also include completing work-based projects while under supervision. You may need to attend an on campus assessment and/or a teacher might need to observe and assess you in a real or simulated environment.
