This course is scheduled as 5 day blocks, for 3 blocks per year. Australian Apprenticeships training can be on-the-job, off-the-job or a combination of both. TAFE NSW will negotiate your study pattern with you and your employer.

Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Practical skills assessment: demonstrations under observation, role play scenarios

  • Knowledge assessments: presentations, multiple choice questions, true or false, short answer questions

  • Simulated workplace projects: scenario-based problem solving

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • There is no work placement requirement for this qualification. As an apprentice or trainee, you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.

  • If you are enrolling as a non-apprentice, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments in order to meet the course completion requirements.

Additional entry requirements

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • To take this course as an apprenticeship you need to be employed as an apprentice in the industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer and

  • Submit your Training Plan Proposal (TPP) with your application

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

    • an apprentice (you will work in industry and study at the same time)
    • employed full time
    • signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
    • seeking to gain skills and knowledge to become qualified in Civil Construction after successful completion

  • Before you can start an apprenticeship, you first need to find an employer in the industry you're interested in that will support you through your studies. You and your employer should contact an Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) and tell them you're interested in studying at TAFE NSW.

  • The ANP will help you and your employer to complete a Training Contract. Once you have a Training Contract, we will help you, your employer and the ANP to complete a Training Plan Proposal. Once you have both these documents, the ANP will lodge them with State Training Services, who will provide further advice about next steps.

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Civil Construction (Civil Construction General) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 25 units of competency, including 7 core and 18 speciality units.

We have an innovatively designed trade centre including an indoor carpentry and joinery centre, where students gain practical skills in carpentry, bricklaying, concreting, plumbing and tiling. The campus also offers a range of creative industry courses, and is one of two campuses to offer a fashion design course on the North Coast.
