The nationally recognised Certificate IV in Civil Construction Design gives you the essential theoretical and practical skills needed to step into the construction industry. Learn to apply a wide range of construction principles and begin your civil career in a range of roles.


Through a mix of theory and practical coursework, learn to:

During your study, you need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful.

If you are working on construction sites or studying as a trainee, you need to meet the following success. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

  • A General Construction Induction Card (commonly known as a White Card)


A white card (or general construction induction card) is required for workers who require access to construction sites.

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • A familiarity with computer programs such as Word
  • A personal computer that is CAD capable (Computer-Aided Design program)
  • Math skills at a Year 12 General level

This is a Flexible Face to Face course. You will need to attend approximately 7 hours of class, over 1 day a week, for 2 years

You may also be required to complete approximately 3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research, and assignment preparation.


This course offering is designed for people who:

  • Individuals as a whole will be from diverse backgrounds and represent a wide variety of age groups.
  • Allowance is made for the needs of particular groups (e.g. people with disabilities, and people who may have literacy or numeracy difficulties, such as speakers of languages other than English).
  • Individuals may have met some of the requirements through recognition of previous studies, work experience, life experience or a combination of them all.
  • Individuals may be working full or part time in Industry and or other industries; while others may be studying to enter the industry.

This is a fully government-subsidised JobTrainer course. Eligibility criteria applies.


This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
