The nationally recognised Certificate II in Salon Assistant prepares you for work and further study in hairdressing or barbering. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you meet the local level entry requirements which are identified at an ACFS level 2 for this qualification.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to provide services on paying clients and may also need to provide models for some of your practical classes and assessments. You must comply with Work Health & Safety requirements for classes, including wearing closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.

Work placement is not compulsory, however it is highly recommended. Learners enrolled in this course are encouraged to complete work placement with a host employer as part of their training program. Work placement is designed to enrich the learning, compliment the formal training and enable an easier transition into the industry once the course is completed. Clinic sessions can be completed as work placement with a host employer that has been approved by the teaching section. Learners not participating in work placement with a host employer, will be required to participate in scheduled clinic sessions at TAFE, providing services on paying clients.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Full Time Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 18.7 hours of class 2 days per week for 18 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 6.3 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study and assignment preparation.

You will required to attend the following in term 2 (3 days) : 14 hours x 10 weeks and 10.4 hours online x 10 weeks. In term 3 you will be required to undertake practical salon assistant workshops 10 hours per week x 9 weeks. Please note: in the 2 week holiday period (28/9/20 - 9/10/20) you will be required to undertake self directed skill development and online research tasks.

This pre-employment Certificate II Salon Assistant cohort is targeted at individuals? seeking to find employment as hairdressing salon assistants who provide assistance with client services. These routine and repetitive tasks are completed under direct supervision and with guidance from hairdressers who manage the client service.

To keep you safe while studying, some of our face to face classes may be replaced with online or connected learning. We have also modified our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. As restrictions ease, the way you attend your class may change again. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, due to the impacts of COVID 19 there may be a delay or modification in being able to undertake these aspects of your course in the planned timeframe. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled on Thursday and Friday from 8.30 am to 4 pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

You will be required to purchase equipment/tools of trade and personal protective equipment (PPE) at an approximate cost of - $100.

WH&S requirements for classes:

You must wear closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry. Please note that the tool kit is equipment required for the course which you will own.

Non compulsory items:

TAFE NSW Hair & Beauty T-shirts are recommended and can be purchased at an approximate cost $20.
