The nationally recognised Certificate II in Salon Assistant prepares you for work and further study in hairdressing or barbering. Learn your skills in TAFE NSW hair salons and practice on paying clients, as you learn the fundamental skills you need to provide outstanding customer experiences in salon settings.

Hairdressing and beauty services are projected to stay in-demand and to continue to grow. The industry is forecast to employ around 78,380 people in 2019/20, generating $6.8 billion in revenue. And revenue will continue to increase by an average of 1.3% per year to 2024/25.

This is a full time course. You will need to attend approximately 21 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 weeks.
You may also be required to complete approximately 12.5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including assignment preparation, private study, and research.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8.30am to 4.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study. This can be purchased from the section for $80.00 and contains:
- T-shirt and apron: $30.00
- Brush Kit: $50.00
Students must ensure that they wear appropriate clothing, black pants and covered footwear that meet industry standards.
