Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments: short answer, extended response, research and theory tasks

  • Practical skills assessments: demonstrations under observation. Depending on your location, you may be required to provide clients for your practical classes and assessments.

  • Simulated workplace projects: scenario-based problem solving

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will be required to purchase equipment/tools of trade and personal protective equipment (PPE) at an approximate cost of - $100. WH&S requirements for classes: You must wear closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry. Please note that the tool kit is equipment required for the course which you will own.

To make sure this delivery option is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

  • Work placement is not compulsory, however it is highly recommended. Learners enrolled in this course are encouraged to complete work placement with a host employer as part of their training program. Work placement is designed to enrich the learning, compliment the formal training and enable an easier transition into the industry once the course is completed. Practical sessions can be completed as work placement with a host employer that has been approved by the teaching section. Learners not participating in work placement with a host employer, will be required to participate in scheduled clinic sessions at TAFE, providing services on paying clients.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate II in Salon Assistant qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 12 Units of competency, including 8 core and 4 speciality units.
