Course Details

The nationally recognised Certificate II in Salon Assistant prepares you for exciting work as a salon assistant. Practise hairdressing and barbering techniques on real clients, and with further study become a qualified hairdresser, barber or salon owner.

Traineeship
TAFE NSW offers the Certificate II in Salon Assistant as a traineeship. To be eligible to enrol as a trainee you must:

  • Be employed in the salon industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • Have a signed traineeship contract

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time, combination course. You must attend approximately 16 hours of class. You may also be required to complete approximately 2 hours of additional study. This additional study could include private study, work placements and research.

The course will run 2 days a week for 18 weeks.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday with morning classes and Tuesday with all day classes. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

  • Students are encouraged to provide their own trade equipment in order to develop your skills outside of scheduled class times. Approximate cost $80-$150
  • Equipment Lists will be provided at the orientation session or first day of class, along with suggested industry suppliers.
  • You must comply with Work Health & Safety requirements for classes, including wearing closed-in, protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.
