Course Details

Make your mark as a qualified beautician with the nationally accredited Certificate III in Beauty Services. You will learn a wide range of beauty disciplines including make-up, nails, waxing and brows and develop your ability to consult confidently with clients in a salon environment.

INDUSTRY DEMAND

The Australian beauty industry is worth billions of dollars and has experienced a decade of uninterrupted growth. Currently there is an identified skills shortage of qualified Beauty Therapists with the industry forecast to continue steady growth to 2023.

When you study with TAFE NSW, we want you to succeed. Entry requirements allow us to make sure that you have the right pre-existing knowledge and skills to achieve your chosen qualification. You will need to provide evidence that you meet the requirements listed in this section.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

WORK PLACEMENT

Work experience provides you with?exposure to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment.

Work experience is not mandatory for this qualification; however, this is a highly practical course. We strongly recommend you undertake 72 hours of work experience with a suitable industry employer to get the most out of your study, expand your network and get real world experience.

Should you choose to complete the nominated 72 hours in industry, you will need to arrange work placement with a suitable employer. Your teachers will arrange an appointment with you to provide more information.

If you are unable to secure work placement with an industry partner, you will be required to complete 72 hours of clinic work in a simulated workplace environment. This will occur at your campus location during normal class times on a day nominated by your teaching section.

Whether you are enrolled full-time or part-time, it is recommended that you start your work placement one week from your course start date.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have Local level entry requirements which are identified at an ACFS level 3 for this qualification.

To successfully complete this course, you will be required to provide services on paying clients and may also need to provide models for some of your practical classes and assessments. You must comply with Work Health & Safety requirements for classes, including wearing closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.

Work placement is not compulsory, however it is highly recommended. Learners enrolled in this course are encouraged to complete work placement with a host employer as part of their training program. Work placement is designed to enrich the learning, compliment the formal training and enable an easier transition into the industry once the course is completed.

Clinic sessions can be completed as work placement with a host employer that has been approved by the teaching section. Learners not participating in work placement with a host employer, will be required to participate in scheduled clinic sessions at TAFE, providing services on paying clients.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Part Time Evening Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 20.7 hours of class, 4 days a week, for 18 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 7.4 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 8 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including online revision, assignment prep, private study and elective practice.

You will required to attend the following: (16hours per week x 18 weeks and 7.4 hours per week unsupervised skills practice x 18 weeks (506 hrs structured learning). You will also be required to undertake an additional 5.5 hours per week x 15 weeks of online revision, assignment prep, private study and elective practice (144 unstructured learning): total volume of learning 650 hours.

This course offering is designed for people who are interested in developing their skills and knowledge, in preparation for employment into a beauty service or related industry. You will learn how to perform a range of beauty services that include: nail services, waxing, lash, brow, basic make-up services and client consultation on beauty products and services.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

You will be required to purchase equipment/tools of trade and personal protective equipment (PPE) at an approximate cost of $580 - $650 which you will keep as your own to use in class. Non compulsory items: TAFE NSW Hair & Beauty T-shirts are recommended and can be purchased at an approximate cost $20.
