Course Details

The nationally recognised Certificate III in Beauty Services prepares you for a career as a qualified beautician in a salon environment. Learn a wide range of practical skills and develop your ability to consult with clients both in a TAFE NSW beauty salon and as part of your work experience.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

WORK EXPERIENCE

Work experience is not mandatory for this qualification, however this is a highly practical course. To get the most out of your study, expand your network and get real world experience, we strongly recommend you undertake 72 hours of work experience with a suitable industry employer.

You will need to organise your own work experience. If you can't secure work experience, you'll need to complete 72 hours of clinic work in an on-campus, TAFE NSW simulated environment. This will happen during your normal class time on a day nominated by your teacher.

Whether you are enrolled full-time or part-time, it is recommended that you start your work placement one week from your course start date.

  • Willingness to follow strict hygiene and work, health and safety principles

  • Comfort massaging body parts including head, feet, hands and torso

  • Openness to work with a diverse range of clients

  • The ability to practise your skills on your peers and members of the public, and comfort having your peers to practise on you

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course, local level entry requirements are identified at an ACFS level 3 for this qualification. Students enrolling in this qualification will complete LLN assessment as part of this enrolment.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to successfully complete all class activities and assessments. You must plan to attend all classes. You will need to participate satisfactorily in all classroom activities including participation in skills development sessions where you will work in a simulated salon performing beauty services on paying clients.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a blended full time course. You will need to attend approximately 20.2 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 7.9 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 8 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including Moodle activities, assignment work and private study.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course is designed for learners who have an interest in the beauty industry. You must enjoy talking and communicating with people and must be prepared to perform beauty services on fee paying clients in a simulated salon environment. You must be prepared to be presented in professional black attire, and be presented in an appropriate manner with excellent personal hygiene. You will be required to complete some online activities and some prescribed reading as part of your course, outside of class hours.

The way you learn may change during your enrolment to ensure the best learning experience or to keep you safe as COVID-19 restrictions change, and some of our face to face classes may change to online or virtual classroom learning. Also, to ensure that we keep you safe while studying, we may modify our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9.00am to 4.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
