Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed as make-up artists to design and apply make-up for a range of purposes and occasions across the beauty, fashion, media and entertainment industries.

These individuals possess a range of well-developed technical and consultation skills where discretion and judgement is required and are responsible for their own outputs. This includes working cooperatively with a range of individuals including photographers, fashion stylists and media production staff.

Work is typically conducted as part of a team or on a freelance basis in settings such as make-up studios, retail cosmetic counters, fashion and media sets and photography studios.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:
Students are required to compete a screening process with section staff, prior to enrolling. This is to ensure students have the best opportunity to successfully to complete the program. Students will attend information/orientation session and are required to purchase personal equipment kit prior to commencement of class. There are no training package entry requirements for this qualification, however it is recommended if you have questions or concerns to talk to the section staff prior to enrolling.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:
Students need to attend all classes, complete all class and unsupervised activities, assessment activities, and teacher directed tasks. In addition, you will be required to work on clients and be prepared to have treatments completed on yourself. You will be required to supply models for assessments and practice.

Full time students are not required to do additional work placement hours. It is expected that students find a salon and complete some unsupervised hours in a salon to master skills. This may help students to gain part time work and lead to employment at the end of the course.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Full Time Face to Face course. You will need to attend approximately 21 hours of class, over 3-4 days a week, for 18 weeks. You may also be required to complete approximately 6 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including online revision, private study and assignment preparation.

This course is currently scheduled for 3-4 days a week. An individual training plan will be provided when you enrol in this course. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail your units and assessments.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:
Students will be required to purchase a kit for home study and practice at a total cost of $710.00 which consist of;
Online e-book, Airbrush Machine, Brush Kit, Uniform

Make-up Kit $350.00 (Optional)

Student must ensure that they wear appropriate clothing and covered footwear that meets industry standards.
