Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed as make-up artists to design and apply make-up for a range of purposes and occasions across the beauty, fashion, media and entertainment industries.

These individuals possess a range of well-developed technical and consultation skills where discretion and judgement is required and are responsible for their own outputs. This includes working cooperatively with a range of individuals including photographers, fashion stylists and media production staff.

Work is typically conducted as part of a team or on a freelance basis in settings such as make-up studios, retail cosmetic counters, fashion and media sets and photography studios.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

At the compulsory information sessions you will be advised of the course requirements and related course costs. You will be notified of your timetable, start date, days and times at the compulsory information session prior to course commencement.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Full Time course. You will be required to attend the following: 21 hours per week, 3 days per week x 18 weeks and 6.3 hours per week unsupervised skills practice x 18 weeks (492 hrs structured learning).

You will also be required to undertake an additional 7 hours per week x 18 weeks of online revision, assignment prep, private study and elective practice (126 hours unstructured learning): total volume of learning 618 hours .

This course is currently scheduled 3 days a week. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:
You will be required to purchase equipment/tools of trade and personal protective equipment (PPE) at an approximate cost of - $580 - 650. WH&S requirements for classes: You must wear closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry. Non compulsory items: TAFE NSW Hair & Beauty T-shirts are recommended and can be purchased at an approximate cost $20.
