The nationally accredited Certificate III in Nail Technology equips you with another string in your beauty bow to become a nail technician. Learn to make people feel their polished best, express your creativity and use your skills in a beauty salon or start your own business.

INDUSTRY DEMAND

The beauty care industry is one of the fastest growing consumer markets in Australia and the number of Beauty Therapists is expected to grow very strongly with around 25,000 job openings over 5 years to 2023.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

TAFE NSW offers the Certificate III in Nail Technology as either a traineeship or non-traineeship, so you can design the career you want.

Non-traineeship

There are no entry requirements for non-trainees. You can enrol in this course now.

Traineeship

To be eligible for this course you must:

  • Be employed in the beauty industry as this course is delivered in the workplace
  • Have a signed traineeship contract

To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you:

  • Are comfortable practising your skills on your peers and members of the public, and allowing your peers to practice their skills on you
  • Are comfortable touching hands and feet for manicures and pedicures

  • Have safe, hygienic practices and a high level of personal presentation

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

To be enrolled in this course:
You will need to confirm that you are able to attend 1 day face to face at Coffs Harbour Campus on Thursdays, from 9.00am to 4.30pm.

To successfully complete this course, you need:

  • To attend all classes
  • To complete all class and unsupervised activities, assessment activities, and teacher directed tasks
  • To work on clients and be prepared to have treatments done yourself. You will be required to supply models for assessments and practice.

Work Placement:
Full time students are not required to do additional work placement hours. Students will complete work placement in TAFE clinic/salon on Thursdays 9.00am to 3.30pm to master skills.

Student must ensure that they wear appropriate clothing and covered footwear that meets industry standards. Extra equipment may be required by the section and student will be notified at orientation.

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part time day course. You will need to attend approximately 17 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 18 weeks.

You may also be required to complete approximately 17 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including online tasks and prescribed reading.

This course is currently scheduled Monday, 9.00am to 1.00pm, Tuesday 9.00am to 4.30pm and Thursday, from 9.00am to 4.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
