  • The student is required to provide their own professional tools of trade to perform each task for this qualification. This includes:

    • Various scissors for the purpose of cutting hair, including thinners and long blade overcomb scissors
    • Feather haircutting razor and disposable replacement razors
    • Trimmer, Clipper and attachments, balding clippers if completing barber units
    • Blow dryer and thermal equipment (straightener, conical curler etc)
    • Sectioning clips, various combs and brush sizes
  • -Professional personal equipment (PPE)

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

    • Over 21 years of age with evidence of current industry experience. Your workplace evidence will be reviewed prior to course entry.
  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • It is recommended that learners enrolled in the non-trade program will commence optional work placement in week one (1) with a host employer from the commencement date of their enrolment.

  • While work placement is strongly encouraged it is not compulsory. Achieving competency with the addition of work placement with a host employer will support the learner’s ability to achieve competency more easily. Learners that are unable to find their own suitable work placement, will be required to complete the workplace training hours in a simulated workplace environment at TAFE during normal class times on a day nominated by the individual teaching section.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Hairdressing qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 28 units of competency, including 21 core and 7 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
