The student is required to provide their own professional tools of trade to perform each task for this qualification. This includes:

• Various scissors for the purpose of cutting hair, including thinners and long blade overcomb scissors

• Feather haircutting razor and disposable replacement razors

• Trimmer, Clipper and attachments, balding clippers if completing barber units

• Blow dryer and thermal equipment (straightener, conical curler etc)

• Sectioning clips, various combs and brush sizes

-Professional personal equipment (PPE)

• Enclosed footwear

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

• Over 21 years of age with evidence of current industry experience. Your workplace evidence will be reviewed prior to course entry.

It is recommended that learners enrolled in the non-trade program will commence optional work placement in week one (1) with a host employer from the commencement date of their enrolment.

While work placement is strongly encouraged it is not compulsory. Achieving competency with the addition of work placement with a host employer will support the learner’s ability to achieve competency more easily. Learners that are unable to find their own suitable work placement, will be required to complete the workplace training hours in a simulated workplace environment at TAFE during normal class times on a day nominated by the individual teaching section.
