The nationally accredited Certificate III in Hairdressing enables you to launch your career as a qualified hairdresser and hairstylist. Learning a broad range of hairdressing skills as well as building your clientele, this course will qualify you to work in an established salon or start your own.

This is a part time day course. You will need to attend approximately 7 hours of class per week for 2 years. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 2 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 7 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including online tasks and prescribed reading.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
This course offering is designed for people who are registered apprentices. You will learn off the job at TAFE and on the job in your workplace to develop the skills and knowledge to become a qualified hairdresser. On successful completion of this qualification, you will be job ready in a range of hairdressing services that include: cutting, colouring, design, chemical work and customer service.

An individual training plan will be provided when you enrol in this course. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail your units and assessments.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
There are a range of study options for NSW Apprentices and eligible non-apprentices with relevant industry work experience in this course.
Under the NSW Government fee-free apprenticeship initiative, NSW apprentices that commence their training on or after 1 July 2018 may be eligible for fee-free training. Apprentices are required to provide evidence of their NSW apprenticeship to finalise their enrolment and applicable fees.
This course is also a TAFE NSW Trade Pathways Qualification and ideal if you have been working in this industry for an extended period of time but havent received a qualification. To be eligible to enrol as a non-apprentice and secure funding, you must firstly meet the Smart and Skilled eligibility criteria and be:
- over 21 years of age
- able to demonstrate and provide evidence of extensive industry experience and
- able to demonstrate relevant ongoing work experience and provide workplace evidence to support the achievement of competence.
You will need to purchase specialist equipment in order to develop your skills outside of scheduled class times. Detailed Student Equipment Lists will be provided at the orientation session or first day of class, along with suggested industry suppliers. The cost for specialist equipment for this course is approximately $784 which you will retain on completion of your training.
Students are also required to wear closed in protective footwear and plain black pants or black skirt below the knee. A uniform/tunic will need to be purchased at a cost of approximately $50 from TAFE NSW Hairdressing Section.
