Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • As an apprentice, you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.

  • If you are enrolling as a non-apprentice, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments in order to meet the course completion requirements.

Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

  • You will be required to purchase equipment/tools of trade and personal protective equipment (PPE) at an approximate cost of $450 - $500.

  • WH&S requirements for classes: You must wear closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.

  • You are required to provide evidence prior to enrolment of:

    • Local level entry requirements are identified at an ACFS Level 3 for this qualification.
    • You must have an employer and training plan proposal to enrol.
    • You will need to be registered with an Apprenticeship Network Provider

  • To be able to successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • to provide services on paying clients
    • provide models for some of your procatical classes and assessment.
    • comply with Work Health and Safety requirements for classes, including wearing closed-in protective footwear and clothing that is clean adn professional for the industry

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Hairdressing qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 28 units of competency, including 21 core and 7 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
