Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of barbers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. They use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.

This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber shop or salon.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

To achieve this qualification, students must complete 1 day per week of documented work placement in a Barber Shop as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Securing a suitable work placement with an employer before commencement of the Course is the responsibility of the student,

This course is currently scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm with an additional day in a barber shop.

A range of criteria apply for course fees and to access government subsidised training.
Remember, TAFE NSW provides a range of easy and flexible payment options for students or a nominated third party (If a nominated third party is covering the cost of your fees, a letter of authority or purchase order will be required).

When your enrolment is complete, and you have paid the applicable fees, you will be entitled to attend class, participate in training, sit for examinations, receive educational awards, use amenities and services and receive an active TAFEcard (which provides access to library resources).
In addition to your course fee, there may be some additional charges to cover the costs of undertaking this training.
Costs associated with work experience and field trips such as food, transport and accommodation are at the students own expense.

Students will need to purchase the following essential equipment which is retained on completion of study. Estimated costs are listed below and are payable to the Section before the Course commences:
