This qualification reflects the role of barbers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. They use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.
This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber shop or salon.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
This is a full-time face-to-face course. You will need to attend approximately 16 hours of class, over 3 days a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 13 hours of other study per week.
Thursday is a salon day, and can be completed at TAFE or as work experience with a host employer, working on paying clients that suitably meets the needs of the proposed assessment outcomes.
You may also be required to complete approximately 1 hour of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation,research.

- have no experience as a Barber and would like to gain skills in order achive a Certificate III Barbering qualification.

This course is currently scheduled on Tuesday from 1.00pm to 5.00pm, Wednesday from 1.00pm to 9.30pm and Thursday from 9.00am to 3.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
This training is not subsidised by Government funding. There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this course.
Payment of course fee must be made PRIOR to commencement of learning activity.
You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:
There is essential equipment/tools of trade and personal protective equipment (PPE) required for this qualification. Information will be available at orientation/first day of class and will cost approximately $450 - $500 from a supplier of your choice. The essential equipment becomes your physical property and will be retained by you on completion of training.
WH&S requirements for classes: Dress code is all BLACK, NO SHORTS or SINGLETS, and footwear must be closed-in shoes.
TAFE NSW Bankstown Barbers - T-shirts are recommended and can be purchased from the Hair and Beauty Store at Bankstown at an approximate cost of $30. Lockers are available and with a fee of $50 (refundable when key is returned)
