Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of barbers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. They use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.

This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber shop or salon.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

**COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS**

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are: - 21 years of age or over - Credit Transfers for the course from previous courses or Recognition of Prior Learning from previous workplace experience. - Current employment in industry and complete required work placement during the course - Local level entry requirements are identified at an ACFS level 3 for this qualification. - Attend an orientation session and complete an interview. Learners enrolling in this qualification are required to attend an orientation session and complete an interview. Also required to complete LLN assessment (RUReady) as part of this enrolment. - Learners identified with levels PL1A & B, 1 and 2 can access support relevant to their identified needs. - Industry Experience Requirement

"STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time course. You will need to attend approximately 13.4 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 36 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 12.9 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 12.8 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study assignment preparation, informal workplace training

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • Are existing workers who are currently engaged in the Hairdressing industry and/or have previous experience working as a Barber.
  • Industry skills are assessed through recognition of prior learning and gap training is delivered for any skills not yet achieved.
  • May have previous experience and qualifications from overseas
  • Are over 21 years of age and unsuitable to an apprenticeship pathway

This course is currently scheduled on Tuesdays Wednesdays from 8.30am to 4.00pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.
