This qualification reflects the role of barbers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. They use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.
This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber shop or salon.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Time: 10.00am to 10.30am and 4.00pm to 4.30pm
Location: Gymea Campus, Cnr Hotham Road and the Kingsway, Gymea, BUILDING A, LEVEL 2. Please meet in reception area of Hair and Beauty
This is a Full time Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 14 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 26 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 7.5 hours of other study per week.
You may also be required to complete approximately 7.5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including Research tasks, private Study, assignment preparation , informal workplace training.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
This course offering is designed for people who may be currently working and or volunteering in this industry. Learners can have previous experience working as a barber or hairdresser. Industry skills are assessed through recognition of prior learning. Learners may have already achieved some of the units of competency in this qualification through previous study, reducing the amount of learning required.

This course is currently scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9.00am to 4.30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

There is essential equipment required for the qualification. Information will be available at the information session and first day of class and will cost approximately $850 from a supplier of your choice. The essential equipment becomes the physical property of the student and will be
retained by the student on completion of training.
