Course Details

This qualification reflects the role of barbers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. They use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.

This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber shop or salon.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

  • They must be over 21 years old, living in NSW or living in Australia intending to work in NSW, able to provide evidence demonstrating skills, training, practical experience and employment associated within the barbering industry.

    To successfully complete this course, you will need:

  • to complete 26 units of competency, and be competent in the vocation to the required industry standard.

  • to be able to provide evidence of employment within the barbering industry. This could consist of a signed letter from the employer (please note letter must be on letter head with company details and ABN).

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a Part Time Day Blended course. You will need to attend approximately 14 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 1 year. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 8 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 8 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including research tasks, private Study, assignment preparation , informal workplace training

This course offering is designed for people who:

  • Are learners who may be currently working and or volunteering in industry. Some have previous experience working as a barber or hairdresser. Industry skills are assessed through recognition of prior learning. Learners may have already achieved some of the units of competency in this qualification through previous study, reducing the amount of learning required.

This course is currently scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

There is essential equipment required for the qualification. Information will be available at the information session and first day of class and will cost approximately $850 from a supplier of your choice. The essential equipment becomes the physical property of the student and will be retained by the student on completion of training.
