The nationally accredited Certificate III in Barbering is designed for aspiring barbers who want to learn the art of fading, carving and cutting hair in the thriving men's grooming industry. You'll practice your skills on real clients in our fully equipped barbershops and real salons.

There are no information sessions currently scheduled for this course.
This is a full time course. You will need to attend class for 13 hours per week for 18 weeks in Semester 2 2021. Followed by Semester 1 2022, you will need to attend class for 8 hours per week for 18 weeks.
You may also be required to complete approximately 13.5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including online revision, private study and assignment preparation.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
This is an advanced entry course for non-apprenticed learners who wish to seek employment as a qualified Barber. Students have completed a SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant course (or equivalent) or other nationally recognised training, have demonstrated industry experience and are over 21 years of age.
Recognition of Prior Learning and/or Credit Transfer will be applied to individual students as appropriate.

The way you learn may change during your enrolment to ensure the best learning experience or to keep you safe as COVID-19 restrictions change, and some of our face to face classes may change to online or virtual classroom learning. Also, to ensure that we keep you safe while studying, we may modify our face to face classes to meet physical distancing requirements and increased cleaning on campus. If work placement and the demonstration of practical skills are requirements of your course, there may be a modification or delay in the planned timeframe due to COVID-19 impacts. Be assured, we'll keep you informed every step of the way.
This course is currently scheduled on Thursday and Friday from 8.00am to 3.30pm. Orientation will be Monday 12 July 2021. This timetable may change and will be confirmed by your teacher.
SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

You will need to purchase specialist equipment in order to develop your skills outside of scheduled class times. Detailed Student Equipment Lists will be provided at the orientation session or first day of class, along with suggested industry suppliers. The cost for specialist equipment for this course is approx. $400.00 which you will retain on completion of your training.
Students are also required to wear closed in protective footwear and plain black pants or black skirt below the knee. A uniform can be purchased at a cost of approx $30.00 to wear in the TAFE NSW simulated workplace environment.
